Quick, easy, and healthy, this nut-free energy balls recipe ticks all the boxes! All you need is premium-quality Medjool dates and a mix of super seeds, including pumpkin, sunflower, hemp, sesame, and flaxseeds.
These are my daughter’s favorite snacks, and she loves to make them and snack on them (mostly while making them).
I have another energy balls recipe on the blog that includes nuts. It tastes as delicious as this, and my daughter loves it. However, she cannot have it at school since most schools have a “nut-free policy.” Therefore, I started making these nut-free energy balls for her to enjoy at school.
Why you need to make these nut-free energy balls:
- Easy to prep, takes less than 10 minutes.
- No additives, Gluten-free, and plant-based snacks.
- Nut-free for any nuts allergy.
- Kid-friendly & adults as well.
- Healthy, wholesome, and seriously delicious snacks.
- Great for a school lunch box!
Ingredients:
- Medjool dates: To make these energy balls, use fresh, premium-quality Medjool dates; if using another type of date, make sure the dates are a bit meaty and moist rather than dry.
- Pumpkin seeds
- Sunflower Seeds
- Hemp seeds
- Sesame seeds
- Flaxseeds: Use ground or whole flaxseeds and grind them into fine powder before using them in this recipe.
- Cacao powder: I prefer cacao, the raw and unprocessed version of cocoa, but you can use cocoa instead to make this recipe. I used half a tablespoon only, but you can use more depending on how much “chocolaty” you want them to taste.
- Pink salt: to enhance the sweetness of these delicious energy balls.
How to make nut-free energy balls recipe:
- Remove the seeds from the Medjool dates and set aside.
- Add sunflower, pumpkin, and hemp seeds to the food processor and pulse until they become coarse or chunky powder.
- Next, add the pitted dates, sesame seeds, flaxseed powder, cacao powder, and a pinch of pink salt and blend on high until a thick dough is formed and feels “sticky” in your hands.
- Scoop a tablespoon or two, depending on how big you want to form the balls, and roll them in your hands to form a ball.
- Line a tray with a baking sheet and place all the balls on the parchment paper.
- Place the tray in the fridge so the balls can be set for an hour.
- It is optional, but once the energy balls are set, you can roll them in hemp or sesame seeds, and they are ready to be enjoyed!
Pro tips for making energy balls:
- If you are using premium-quality Medjool dates, they are soft and moist enough that you won’t need to pre-soaking to prepare this recipe. However, if the dates you are using are dry, you need to soak them in warm water for 10 minutes before you prepare this recipe.
- Use pre-pitted dates to make this recipe even quicker.
- This recipe can be doubled or tripled to make more energy bites.
- For the seeds, I tend to process them first in the food processor for a coarse powder texture; that’s how my daughter likes it. But you can pulse them less to make them chunkier or more to make them into fine powder.
