This is not a typical Dates Milkshake recipe; it’s my twist on the classic recipe. It’s more like a Middle Eastern /Japanese milkshake recipe.

First thing, what is a Dates Milkshake?
It is dates blended with milk and/or ice cream. The dates shake originated in the US. However, it is quite popular in the Middle East as well. Most dates are produced in the Middle Eastern region.
Is Date Milkshake healthy?
If we simply answer whether it is healthy or not, then the answer is yes, it is healthy! The health benefits come mainly from the dates. In this recipe, the addition of Matcha boosts the health benefits..
Dates:

There are many varieties of dates, all packed with health benefits. However, in this recipe, I have used the most popular one: Medjool dates. Medjool or” Majhul “dates are a tropical stone fruit. They are large, sweet, and have a caramel-like taste. They are often sold in dried form, which makes them sweeter.
It mainly grows in Morocco and was named “the fruit of the king” since it was eaten by royalty. However, it has now grown widely in different countries such as Jordan and the US. They contain several vitamins, minerals, fibers, and natural sugars.
Some of the health benefits of Medjool dates are:
- It supports good digestion due to its fiber content.
- Lowering bad cholesterol, therefore, reduces the risk of heart disease.
- Good for the bones due to its calcium and magnesium content.
- Good antioxidant.
Matcha:

It’s a finely ground powder of green tea leaves, mainly consumed in East Asia. Three grades of Matcha indicate quality :
- Ceremonial grade is the one I am using in this recipe.
- Premium grade
- Cooking grade.
Matcha has many health benefits. Compared to coffee, it has less caffeine. Unlike coffee, it increases energy but has a relaxing effect simultaneously. It’s a good antioxidant, improves immunity, and has a detoxing effect.
Matcha dates shake recipe ingredients & notes:
- Almond Milk
- You can use any plant milk of your choice; oat milk also works for this recipe.
- Frozen Banana
- Instead of ice cream in this shake, I’ve used frozen bananas, which are healthier and tastier.
- Medjool Dates.
- Feel free to use any dates you prefer. I love Medjool dates because they add a caramel-like taste. If you don’t own a high-speed blender, pre-soak your dates. This will soften them and blend them easily.
- If you do not have access to ceremonial Matcha, use the cooking grade. It is widely available and cheaper than ceremonial Matcha. I just happen to love ceremonial Matcha more. Feel free to use any Matcha you want that tastes good.
- This is optional, BUT highly recommended.
- Optional for garnishing your shake!

Preparation:
That is the easiest step. All you need is a good high-speed blender, like a Vitamix. Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth and creamy!
